The unit comprises an inner (2) and an outer telescopic bar (3), which can both be accommodated within a cylindrical case (4, 8) of the same length as the bars (2, 3), facilitating the creation of an extremely low unit. The inner bar (2) is moved by a first gas pressurized spring (18, K1) located in the center of the column, while the outer bar (3) is moved by a second spring (K2) positioned between the outer bar (3) and the case (4) which can be locked at a particular height with a foot operated lever by a control switch integrated in the base of the table.
