<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that a cutting edge of an optical fiber is tilted at a certain angle and, in addition, a center side is bent to be convex in the direction orthogonal to the tilt direction in a method for cutting off the optical fiber by using laser light by fixing the optical fiber inside a cylindrical capillary. <P>SOLUTION: Laser light from a laser light source 1 forms an image of a rectangular spot 5 via a rectangular translucent part 3 and a lens 4 for irradiating the optical fiber 6, and part of the optical fiber irradiated by the rectangular spot is cut off by melting and evaporating it. The cut off part of the optical fiber is fixed in the cylindrical capillary 7, and the irradiation side of the laser light of the cylindrical capillary is formed flat. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
