PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding wire that exhibits stable feed performance even in the case where a feeding speed of the welding wire is increased in electroslag welding using a large electric current or where the welding wire is used under such severe conditions as the raised temperature of the welding wire. SOLUTION: As the welding wire, the steel wire contains 0.02-0.30 wt% C, 0.05-1.8 wt% Si, 0.5-3.5 wt% Mn, 0.03-2.5 wt% Mo, 3.0 wt% or less Ni, 0.007-0.40 wt% Ti, 0.0003-0.025 wt% B, 0.012 wt% or less N, and 0.0009-0.015 wt% O, with the balance Fe and inevitable impurities. Also, the steel wire possesses, on the surface, fatty acid ester or lubricant at 0.2-1.8 g per 10 kg steel wire or fatty acid ester and lubricant at 0.2-1.8 g in total per 10 kg steel wire. Further, the steel wire contains a lubricant mixture composed of 15-70 wt% MoS<SB>2</SB>or BN, or 15-70 wt% in total MoS<SB>2</SB>and BN, 2 wt% or less wax, 2-70 wt% K-compound, and 5-70 wt% copper powder, at the rate of 0.2-1.0 g per 10 kg steel wire.
