A plasma arc reactor has first (5) and second (10) electrodes spaced apart to achieve plasma arc in between; inlet for introducing plasma gas (25) in space between the electrodes; and plasma arc generator. The first electrode has a channel (7) with outlet (9) exiting into the electrodes' space. An inlet (8) feeds solid material (20) to the channel and the electrodes' space. An independent claim is also included for a process of producing powder from a solid material by providing a plasma arc reactor, introducing plasma gas, generating plasma arc, feeding solid material to vaporize, cooling vaporized material to condense powder, and collecting the powder.
