<p>A process for producing an N-monoalkyl-3-hydroxy-3-(2-thienyl)propanamine represented by the general formula (2): (2) (wherein R represents C1-4 alkyl), characterized by reducing a (Z)-N-monoalkyl-3-oxo-3-(2-thienyl)propenamine represented by the general formula (1): (1) (wherein R is the same as the above). By the process, an N-monoalkyl-3-hydroxy-3-(2-thienyl)propanamine useful as an intermediate for various medicines can be industrially and easily produced at low cost.</p>
