PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a malfunction by accurately judging correct operation of a plurality of light beam detecting means. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises a polygon mirror for deflecting a light beam being modulated depending on an image signal to the main scanning direction, a plurality of sensors 35KC and 39KC for detecting the light beam being deflected by the polygon mirror at two points on the main scanning line, and a CPU 42 for measuring the time interval of the light beam passing between these sensors 35KC and 39KC from the count of specified clocks wherein a magnification is corrected by calculating a correction value from the count and a preset reference count. The imaging apparatus is further provided with a status detecting circuit 41 for making a decision whether a normal output signal is outputted or not together with the CPU 42 at an incident timing of the light beam expected for each sensor 35KC, 39KC.
