PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a controller for a self-excited power converter which can control to prevent a transformer from being unevenly magnetized and control to DC balance an inverter. SOLUTION: The controller for the self-excited power converter includes a pulse-width modulation control unit 26 for controlling a pulse generating phase and a pulse ending phase by comparing the pulse generating phase and pulse ending phase calculated by a pulse generating and ending phase arithmetic unit 20 with an AC voltage phase from a PLL unit 6, a subtracter 22 for calculating a difference between a primary side current by a primary side AC current detector 4 of the transformer and a secondary side current by a secondary side AC current detector 21 of the transformer, an amplifier 23 for amplifying the difference, a polarity switching means for switching the polarity of the amplified output from the amplifier 23 in response to a phase deviation from an AC voltage phase and voltage command phase deviation arithmetic unit 18 from the PLL unit 6, and an adder 25 for adding the switched result to an amplitude value of a voltage command value.
