PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the wear resistance and the seizure resistance of a sliding surface of an appliance such as an outer surface of a sliding surface of a piston pin of an internal combustion engine for a vehicle. SOLUTION: A seizure resistance improving method comprises a first step of carburizing a sliding surface of a steel base, a second step of performing chromium plating on the carburized sliding surface, and a third step of forming an oil sump recess comprising very small recesses in a chromium-plated layer and a relatively large recess formed by a peeled chromium-plated layer on the sliding surface by giving shocks to the chromium-plated sliding surface.
