PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing defective ejection of ink due to a condition that a part of nozzles are not used for printing for a long time by eliminating the condition even when the nozzles are used for a long time in a mode that all of the nozzles are not used. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus comprises an image forming means consisting of a plurality of small image forming elements and forms an image on a recording medium. The apparatus has at least two conditions of a first condition that a part of the plurality of the small image forming elements are not used and a second condition that the image forming elements including the image forming elements different from the image forming elements which are not used in the first condition, are not used.
