The invention relates to a polymorphic form of dorzolamide chlorhydrate which is substantially free of water and another polymorphic form containing a crystallisation water molecule, said forms having been characterised by IR, DSC and XRD. The aforementioned polymorphic forms can be obtained by means of crystallisation of the base dorzolamide in an organic solvent through the addition of a hydrogen chloride solution. The concentration of water in the medium constitutes the parameter that controls the production of one polymorphic form or another. The pharmaceutical compositions can be used to treat ocular hypertension.
