[Also in Divisions B7, B8] A chain wheel, e.g. for a drive chain or an endless chain-type conveyer, comprises members 6, having saddles 12 engaging link pins 5 of an endless chain 3, carried on a wheel disc 2, each member having a central lug 7 movable in a respective radial recess 10 in the disc 2 and cooperating with at least two stationary cams 19, 23 so arranged that each link pin 5 moves along a chord 24 of the chain-wheel pitch circle 25 in the entry and exit zones. This is stated to give a uniform chain speed round the chain wheel, including the entry and exit zones, to smooth chain engagement, and facilitate high-speed running. Each member 6 carries two rollers 16 on a shaft 15, which engage the cams 23, and two rollers 17, each on a shaft 18, which engage the cams 19 which are formed in substantially annular slots 21. The members 6 are kept in alignment with one another by noses 13 engaging slots 14. The invention is also applied to vehicle road wheels having segmental peripheries (see Division B7).
