PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently reduce a temperature of high temperature exhaust gas generated from a melting furnace. SOLUTION: The present method is a method for reducing the temperature of the exhaust gas generated when melting incineration residue of municipal waste and/or industrial waste in a plasma melting furnace not shown in the figure by using a melting exhaust gas cooling chamber 11. It is composed so as to reduce the temperature of the high temperature exhaust gas in a device body 1101 by supplying coolant gas from a cooling air nozzle 1103 so as to form a swirl in the device body 1101, supplying cooling water from a cooling water nozzle 1106 so as to accompany the coolant gas, and mixing the high temperature exhaust gas from a high temperature exhaust gas nozzle 1105 into the swirl of coolant gas accompanied by the cooling water while swirling it in a direction along the swirl.
