PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heating device which makes on-demanding and speeding up possible, permits stable rotational driving of a heating member, makes it possible to obtain good heatability for a long period, makes good color image output free of gloss unevenness possible in the case of a heat fixing device and is safe. SOLUTION: The heating device includes the film- or belt-like rotationally movable heating member 3 having an heat layer which generates heat by absorbing radiation light, a radiation heat generation source 1 disposed within the heating member, a holding member 2 having a sliding surface sliding with an inside surface of the heating member, and a pressure member 5 forming a nip section N across the heating member between itself and the sliding surface of the holding member. The sliding surface of the holding member 2 forming the nip section has a crown shape with respect to the axis of the pressure member 5. The pressure member 5 is rotationally driven, by which the heating member is rotated in the nip section while its inside surface is slid with the sliding surface of the holding member such that a material P to be heated is heated by the heat of the heating member while the material to be heated is held and conveyed between the heating member of the nip section and the pressure member.
