PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently and inexpensively producing a high-molecular-weight polyketone polymer. SOLUTION: The method for producing the high-viscosity polyketone is one comprising copolymerizing carbon monoxide with at least one ethylenically unsaturated compound in the presence of a metal complex catalyst obtained by reacting a palladium compound with a bidentate ligand having a group 15 atom and an anion of an acid of a pKa of 4 or below to produce a polyketone having an intrinsic viscosity of 2.5 dL/g or above, wherein isopropanol is used as a reaction medium or an additive.
