PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the picture quality of a display image when the center of the pupil of the eye of a user shifts from the center of the exit pupil of an image combiner. SOLUTION: For use, a plate type part 5 corresponding to a spectacle lens made of an optical material is positioned in front of the eye of the user placed nearby the exit pupil P of the image combiner 1. The combiner 1 superposes light from an image display element 2 on light, transmitted through the plate type part 5 to pass through the thickness of the plate type part 5 from the front of the plate type part 5, and guides them to the eye. The light from the image display element 2 is diffracted and reflected by a reflection type HOE 6 in the plate type part 5 and then reaches the eye of the user. The wavelength at which the diffraction efficiency becomes maximum when a main light beam emitted from the center of a display part of the image display element 2 is diffracted and reflected and the wavelength at which the diffraction efficiency becomes maximum when a main light beam emitted from the outermost circumferential part of the display part in a specified direction is diffracted and reflected are substantially different from each other.
