PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a method for accurately estimating the arrival direction of a multiplex wave at a small amount of calculation, even when the length of receiving data is short, or even when a SNR (signal-to noise ratio) is low. SOLUTION: The method is for estimating the arrival direction of the multiplex wave arriving at an array antenna in which a plurality of antenna elements are arranged in different linear spatial positions at the same element interval. An array covariance matrix is obtained from the receiving signal of the plurality of antenna elements. The spatial characteristic of the normalized multiplex wave is obtained from the normalized signal proper vector of the array covariance matrix. A prediction coefficient having an allowed model degree is obtained by performing forward and backward linear prediction and the sub-array averaging for the spatial characteristic of the multiplex wave. The arrival direction of the multiplex wave is determined from the phase of the zero point of a prediction polynomial corresponding to the prediction coefficient or the peak position of the spectrum of the prediction polynomial.
