PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article containing device comprising a number of racks provided with rack parts on an endless chain circulating vertically, and having a plurality of gateway ports along moving passages for the racks, which is composed in such a way that articles can be carried in and out by means of a ceiling type carrier provided with a hoist. SOLUTION: At the gateway port 3a (or 3b), a paddle 35 movable between the gateway port 3a (or 3b) and the racks 33 and 33 along the moving passages is provided. Inner parts of the paddle 35 on the side of the rack 33 is cut to form protruded parts 35a and 35a and recessed parts 35b and 35b as tooth parts. In an article support part 33B of each rack 33, recessed parts 33b and 33b and protruded parts 33a and 33a cut as tooth parts to be engaged with the protruded parts 35a and 35a and the recessed parts 35b and 35b on the inner side of the paddle 35 are formed.
