Temperature monitoring system for monitoring the temperature in electric equipment, for example electric conductors and cables, connection points, fuses etc. The system comprises one or more temperature sensors (14) connected to a processor via a data bus (3). The processor reads signals from the temperature sensors (14) and notifies if a failure is detected from given conditions. At least one of the temperature sensors (14) is located in modular units (1), where each unit comprise: electrical contacts (12, 13) for direct connection to, or connection via the data bus (3) to other modular units (1) or the processor.
