The invention relates to an optically variable element and a safety product comprising said type of optically variable element, a film, especially a stamped film or a laminated film comprising an optically variable element and a method for the production of said optically variable element. The optically variable element comprises a series of thin film layers having at least one distance layer for the production of colour displacements by means of interference. In a first area of the series of thin film layers, the distance layer has a layer thickness which is different from that in a second area of the series of thin film layers. The layer thicknesses of the distance layer in the first and second areas are selected in such a manner that a first colour displacement by means of interference takes place in the first series of thin film layers and a second displacement of colour which is different from said colour displacement takes place in the second area of the series of thin film layers.
