The brake pads [01] used on a bicycle is made of an elastomer material and fits into a holder [10]. Set into the pad is a battery cell [44] that supplies a light emitting diode, LED, [22]. The LED is turned on when a braking force is applied that causes deflection of formed pads [66] to engage contacts [88] in the holder and so supplies voltage.
