New transition metal complexes (I) of nickel, palladium and platinum have a ligand with electron-depleted olefinic double bond(s) and a monodentate carbene ligand comprising a 1,3-di-substituted imidazol(in)-ylidene compound with (cyclo)alkyl) and/or (hetero)aryl substituents. New transition metal complexes (I) of nickel, palladium and platinum are of the formula: M = Ni, Pd or Pt; L1 = a ligand with electron-depleted olefinic double bond(s); L2 = a monodentate carbene ligand of 1,3-di-substituted imidazol(in)-ylidene type.
