Granulated plastic and/or rubber materials are mixed with a binder to form a paste. Small solid blocks, cut to a preferred shape and of a peelable material, are added to the paste just prior to conclusion of mixing and the paste is then formed into a solid block and cured. Block thickness is at least twice the maximum thickness of a material strip peeled from the cured block and their length and breadth is only a fraction of that of the peeled strip material. The small solid blocks are preferably of a different material and/or color to the materials forming the base mixture. Peeled material strips have a different pattern of segments(4) on the opposing faces. An Independent claim is included for the composite material which when cut produces peeled strips whose surfaces display an irregular distribution of solid segments with desired shapes.
