<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a laser output is deviated from an adequate level by differences in mechanical mounting states and use environments at the time of actual use and at the time of process inspection even if the set value of a laser output setting circuit is adjusted in the process inspection of an optical head. <P>SOLUTION: The laser beam put off monitor output value which is the monitor output value received by a photodetector 3 for monitor when the laser beam of a laser beam source 1 is put off is measured and the beam source 1 is driven by setting a set value for setting a driving level for driving the beam source 1 to a prescribed default value. The beam source 1 is driven by lowering the level of the set value at every prescribed interval from the default value and a reference set value to set the driving level of the beam source 1 at the point of the time the monitor output value of the photodetector 3 for monitor attains the value equal to the laser beam put out monitor value is detected.
