<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering apparatus which utilizes the rotation angular velocity of a rotor obtained based on an output signal from a resolver to detect a steering angle, detects any failure in a steering angle sensor based on the detected steering angle, and controls a brushless motor based on a steering angle obtained based on an output signal from the resolver. <P>SOLUTION: In the electric power steering arrangement 10 which uses the three-phase brushless motor 19, the electrical angle of the brushless motor 19 is detected by the resolver, and any failure in the steering angle sensor 20d is detected based on the output of the resolver 23. The electrical angle of the brushless motor 19 is detected by the resolver 23, and the steering angle is detected based on the output of the resolver 23.
