<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device which can surely record data to an optical disk even while maintenance is carried out in actuality after a manger decides that the maintenance is necessary and/or a reproduction device and a device management method for this recording and/or reproducing device. <P>SOLUTION: The error rate of a disk cartridge fitted to the recording device 120 is detected and the information on the detected error rate is outputted to a main processing section 101 of a public terminal device 100. When the error rate is below a first value, the recording device is decided to be normal. When the error rate is above a second value, the use of the device is inhibited. When the error rate is between the first and the second values, the light intensity of a light beam is increased so that the data can be recorded without fail to the optical disk. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
