PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote monitoring system capable of monitoring a monitoring object at all times and accurately and quickly recognizing conditions in the case that abnormality occurs. SOLUTION: In the remote monitoring system, a communication terminal for monitoring installed at a place where the image of the monitoring object can be picked up transmits access information for accessing the terminal to a communication terminal for maintenance held by the maintenance person of the monitoring object in the case that the abnormality occurs in the monitoring object, and the communication terminal for the maintenance accesses the communication terminal for monitoring on the basis of the access information received from the communication terminal for monitoring. The communication terminal for monitoring transmits video data obtained by picking up the image of the monitoring object to the communication terminal for the maintenance corresponding to access from the communication terminal for the maintenance and the communication terminal for the maintenance displays a video image indicating the monitoring object on the basis of the video data received from the communication terminal for monitoring.
