PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston ring set for an internal combustion engine, superior in initial conformability, wear resistance and scuffing resistance. SOLUTION: A first pressure ring is formed as a piston ring which has a hard treatment layer on at least the surface of the outer periphery sliding face, the surface of the hard treatment layer being subjected to shot peening treatment. A second pressure ring is formed as a piston ring which has a lubricant coating layer on at least the surface of the outer periphery sliding face, formed by injecting lubricant particles. The first pressure ring and the second pressure ring are combined to form the piston ring set. The shot peening treatment preferably uses ceramic particles. The hard coating formed on the first pressure ring is preferably a nitride, Cr plating or ion plating coating. The lubricant particles injected to the sliding face of the second pressure ring is preferably molybdenum disulfide, tungsten disulfide or metallic tin particles. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
