PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of suppressing variance in the parallelism of a scanning body and obtaining an excellent distortionless read image by eliminating the clearance between a hole and a pin and setting the parallelism in the state. SOLUTION: The image reader which has an original platen where a document is set, a light source exposing the document, a mirror guiding reflected light from the document, the scanning body 9 equipped with the mirror, a rail 3 where the scanning body 9 moves, and a support member holding the rail 3 and also has two or more holes 201 and 202 to be used to position the scanning body 9 in a read direction in the scanning body 9 and two or more holes in the support member is characterized in that the holes 201 and 202 are so shaped that each has one side (e) at an angle to the direction of a straight line L crossing the direction wherein the scanning body 9 moves to read and one side (f) symmetrical with the side (e) about the straight line L.
