PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of pressing a glass body having the optimum optical characteristics and economically manufactured, particularly a glass body having a large diameter and an apparatus for pressing the glass body using the method. SOLUTION: The method of blank pressing the glass body particularly applied for optical use has (a) a process for preparing a press mold composed of an upper die part, a lower die part and a ring as an option, (b) a process for housing the glass body heated to a temperature equal to or above the molding temperature into the press mold, (c) a process for applying voltage to the upper die part and the lower die part to work the glass body at a temperature exceeding the self-adhesive temperature and (d) a process for applying pressing force to the glass body at latest after the temperature of the glass body in the press mold is made to be equal to the temperature of the press mold.
