<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate and improve the operation of a personal digital assistant (PDA). <P>SOLUTION: The PDA has on a side a side controller supported for pivoting motion and pressing motion in predefined ranges, and a current display screen displayed on a display part is scroll-controlled in a first direction according to a rocking operation of the side controller. Long pressing by which the side controller is pressed for a predetermined time or longer shifts the current display screen to a given processing mode to display a given display screen corresponding to the processing mode. Short pressing by which the side controller is pressed for the predetermined time shifts the current display screen to the other display screen different from the given display screen.
