PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a package for housing an infrared rays sensor element which effectively prevents the airtightness from being impaired due to cracks in a window member made of a quartz glass or cracks in a soldered part, and can firmly hold a joining of the window member for a lid body for a long term. SOLUTION: An infrared rays sensor package 1 comprises a base 2 made of ceramics in which a mounting part 1b is provided on the base of a dent 1a of an upper surface thereof, a lid body 4 made of a metal in which an outer periphery is fitted to an upper surface of the base 2 and a window 5 is opened in a central region, and a window member 7 made of a quartz glass in which a metallized layer 8 is formed ranging over all circumstance from a side surface to outer peripheries of both main surfaces and the metallized layer 8 is soldered to an inner peripheral surface 5a of the window 5. An inner peripheral surface 5a of the window 5 is joined to a center of the metallized layer 8 of a side surface 7a of the window member 7, and a projection 6 which projects toward a center of the window 5 and has a pointed top 6a is formed continuously ranging over all the circumstance.
