<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a time division optical multiplex transmission method and apparatus capable of avoiding signal deterioration without overlapping inter-bit four waves mixed (FWM) on optical signals. <P>SOLUTION: An unequal interval time division optical multiplexing signal generating section 11 generates unequal interval time division optical multiplexing signals with a pulse width of τ<SB>send</SB>at a bit rate of Nf<SB>0</SB>and a time division optical demultiplexer section 12 demultiplexes the unequal interval time division optical multiplexing signal into N channel time division optical demultiplexing signals at a bit rate of f<SB>0</SB>. In this case, the bit interval of the unequal interval time division optical multiplexing signal is selected so that there exists at least one 'i' satisfying expressions of τ<SB>send</SB>≤1/(Nf<SB>0</SB>), Δt<SB>1</SB>+Δt<SB>2</SB>+, ... +Δt<SB>N-1</SB>+Δt<SB>N</SB>=1/f<SB>0</SB>, and Δt<SB>i</SB>(i=1, 2, ..., N) ≠Δt<SB>j</SB>(j=i+1 or i-1), wherein Δt<SB>i</SB>is the bit interval between the i-th and (i+1)th channels, and Δt<SB>N</SB>is the bit interval between the N-th and first channels. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
