CARBON FIBER, METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME, AND ELECTRON EMISSION ELEMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber having a new structure, to provide a method for producing the same, and to provide an electron emission element which uses the carbon fiber having the new structure as an carbon emission material.

SOLUTION: This method for producing the carbon fiber comprises growing the carbon fiber by thermally decomposing a raw material gas in a space around a catalyst, wherein a catalytic CVD process is adopted and air exists in the space around the catalyst. Thus, the new carbon fiber which is composed of a hollow linear structure made of the carbon and two or more branched structures made of the carbon and grown on surfaces of the linear structure is produced.
