PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection optical system constituted in such a manner that the angle formed by an incident side reference axis and exit side reference axis can be made sufficiently large while the tilt angles of respective reflecting surfaces are kept small. SOLUTION: The projection optical system for projecting the luminous flux from a subject copy P to the surface to be projected is provided with a plurality of at least three reflecting surfaces R 1 to R 7 having curvature and when the routes (optical paths) traced by the central principal rays arriving at the center of the final formed image projected to the surface to be projected from the center of the subject copy are defined as the reference axes, the incident side reference axis and the exit side reference axis are tilted with each other and the respective reflecting surfaces are so arranged that the reference axes intersect at least once within the projection optical system.
