PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nuclear fuel rod selective taking-out and transferring system having a function capable of taking out spent MOX fuel rods respectively individually, separately from fuel rods other than the spent MOX fuel rods from a fuel assembly used in a thermal neutron reactor wherein an MOX (mixed oxide) fuel, a UO<SB>2</SB>fuel and a Gd-containing UO<SB>2</SB>fuel are used as nuclear fuels and water is used as a moderator and a coolant, and transferring the fuel rods to an individual temporary placement position respectively. SOLUTION: In this system, software-based, mechanical shape-based, magnetic, optical (colored), or electromagnetically-inductive codes are imparted and stored in a storage means, and on the other hand, a function for reading and discriminating the codes is imparted to a nuclear fuel rod identifying hoisting means in a computer control system, and each nuclear fuel rod is identified whether it is the MOX fuel rod or a nuclear fuel rod other than the MOX fuel rod by the identification function and transferred to the individual temporary placement position respectively.
