PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an imaging apparatus in which a decision can be made that the scanning positions of a plurality of laser beams are arranged at a specified interval when the output signals from a scanning position sensor consisting of a plurality of light receiving sensors for detecting the scanning light of the plurality of laser beams coincide with each other. SOLUTION: An optical scanner is arranged to form a latent image on an image carrier using a multibeam being emitted from a semiconductor laser as a light source. The optical scanner includes a plurality of light receiving parts for receiving the multibeam not smaller in number than that of the beams. The plurality of light receiving parts are arranged not to overlap each other while being shifted by a specified interval in the subscanning direction. The light receiving part is shaped such that the edges on the starting side in the main scanning direction are parallel with each other, the edges on the ending side in the main scanning direction are parallel with each other, and the edges on the starting side are not parallel with the edges on the ending side in the main scanning direction.
