<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image evaluation apparatus and an image evaluation method for suitably evaluating the quality of a gradation image printed on a medium by a printer by physical evaluation corresponding to psychological evaluation. <P>SOLUTION: The predetermined gradation image inputted from an image input section 11 is converted into a uniform perception color space image in a color space converting section 12. In a brightness L<SP>*</SP>error calculating section 13, a chromatic a<SP>*</SP>error calculating section 15 and a chromatic b<SP>*</SP>error calculating section 17, an error between an average pixel value and an ideal value is calculated for each predetermined region with respect to each component of the uniform perception color space image. Further, in deviation calculating sections 14, 16, 18, the standard deviation of an error calculated for each region of each component in the uniform perception color space image is calculated. Still further, a gradational evaluation value of the gradation image inputted from the standard deviation for each component of the uniform perception color space image is calculated in a gradational evaluation value calculating section 19. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
