<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generalize a retrieval type karaoke remote controller for multiple providers and multiple machine types with rational architecture. <P>SOLUTION: The latest musical piece index database covering many karaoke machine types is prepared in an information providing device. This remote controller informs the information providing device of the latest period information and machine type IDs that that controller has. The information providing device extracts song index data that the remote controller does not have according to the reported period information and property data by the machine types that the karaoke remote controller does not have according to the reported period information and machine type IDs, and transmits the extracted data to the retrieval type karaoke remote controller.
