PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system, an electronic signature preparation apparatus, and an electronic signature verification apparatus for improving the versatility of an electronic signature.

SOLUTION: The electronic signature preparation apparatus 10 is provided with: a signature preparation means 10a for preparing an electronic signature of a digital document; and a package means 10d for packaging at least the digital document, a public key certificate, the electronic signature, image information visually expressing the electronic signature, and positional information to display the image information on the digital document as one electronic file FP. An electronic signature verification apparatus 20kis provided with: a package extract means 20a for extracting data from the electronic file FP; a signature verification means 20b for verifying the electronic signature by using the public key certificate; a digital document display means 20c for displaying the digital document in response to the result of verification; and an image composition means 20d for composing the image information with a designated position in the digital document.
