PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an electrode foil for an aluminum electrolytic capacitor which can improve an electrostatic capacitance of the electrode foil by improving a pit density and making a pit length uniform. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the electrode foil for the aluminum electrolytic capacitor includes a front stage etching step of electrolytically etching an at least aluminum foil to generate the pit, and a rear stage etching step of enlarging the pit generated by the front stage etching step. In an application of current in the front stage etching step, an initial current density is set to the maximum value at current gradient of I=e<SP>kt</SP>(wherein k is a constant, and t is a time), the current is applied a plurality of times in a current waveform in which k is in a range of -0.6 to -0.1. Thus, a tunnel-like pit length formed on the aluminum foil can be made uniform. This method is repeated a plurality of times, thereby raising the pit density and an electrostatic capacitance.
