PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a trash compactor easy in operation, and setting a compacting end position of a compacting member as desired. SOLUTION: In this trash compactor, an electric motor 20 is rotated normally and reversely to move the compacting member 2 to a stand-by position and a compacting position. The electric motor 20 is provided with a rotation direction control part 31 to produce normal rotation and reverse rotation by a main coil 30 and the direction of current flowing in it. As the compacting member 2 is at the stand-by position, with a start switch 45 ON, the electric motor 20 is rotated normally to move the compacting member 2 in a compacting direction. When it is moved for prescribed strokes, the rotation direction control part 31 makes reverse rotation, while without any supply of current, normal rotation is continued. When the compacting member 2 compacts trash, the electric motor 20 stops. As the current is supplied to the rotation direction control part 31, the compacting member 2 starts reverse rotation to move toward the stand-by position. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
