PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seal for a packing casing to be sealed at its joint portion on a horizontal median between a high pressure region and a medium pressure region of high and medium pressure turbine sections, minimizing or eliminating the leak flow path of steam between the high pressure region and the medium pressure region in a steam turbine. SOLUTION: Spline seals 67, 70, 80, 90 are formed at the joint portion between packing casing shells 28 in the steam turbine having the high and medium pressure turbine sections for sealing the packing casing between the high pressure region and the medium pressure region on both axial sides. The spline seals are located in an aligned groove 60 extending from the vicinity of a seal segment of a rotor radially outward to the vicinity of cooperative axial load surfaces 54, 56 between an outside shell and the packing casing. The spline seals minimize or eliminate the leak flow path of steam passing through the horizontal joint portion of the packing casing shells. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
