COLLAGENASE FOR USING FOR JELLYFISH PROCESSING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a collagenase for reducing the volume of jellyfishes, a jellyfish decomposing agent containing the collagenase, and a method for screening a bacterium secreting a jellyfish degradation enzyme. SOLUTION: Vibrio (Vibrio sp.) HIH-1 strain (Deposit No. FERM P-17897) or Bacillus (Bacillus sp.) J26W strain (Deposit No. FERM P-18313) isolated from saline mud using a screening method including a process selecting a bacterium proliferating in a medium comprising jellyfish extract was cultured with shaking and proliferated in a medium containing a hot-water extract of Aurelia at room temperature. These marine bacteria secret the collagenase in the medium at the time of their proliferation. An ammonium sulphate solution was added to this medium, a protein was precipitated, the protein fraction obtained by centrifugal separation was dialyzed and purified by gel filtration, and a purified collagenase was obtained.
