A guide rail (6) for a roller shutter is fitted to the window or door frame (3) using spacers (12). The bottom of the guide rail is cut off at a spacing from the sill and is fitted with a cap (8) which has an upper part shaped to fit onto the guide rail via flanges. The outer part of the cap has a turned down end and the cap is secured by adhesive, fasteners etc. The cap can be made of sheet metal or plastic moulding.
