A filter plug for the coolant circuit in an air conditioning system is made of sintered material and has a cylindrical body (2) which fits inside a coolant pipe. One end of the plug has a tapering nose (3) which is set pointing upstream in the pipe. The tapering profile ends on a stub end and presents an enlarged surface area to the fluid flow. The filter removes particulate debris from the coolant as well as water crystals.
