<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a service with high entertainment nature which a user can enjoy and to increase the number of visitors to a facility providing the service. <P>SOLUTION: According to this service providing system 100, when a portable telephone set 1a transmits a user ID and character status information to a store terminal server 2, the store terminal server 2 determines new character status information in accordance with a store use history of the holder of the portable telephone set 1a and transmits the new character status information and a corresponding character image to the portable telephone set 1a. The portable telephone set 1a receives the new character status information and the corresponding character image and updates character status information and a character image.
