PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron beam-excited display using a highly safe and high-luminance phosphor, and to provide an easy step for manufacturing the phosphor. SOLUTION: To Lu<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>used as a raw material, Eu<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, Tb<SB>4</SB>O<SB>7</SB>, CaCl<SB>2</SB>-2H<SB>2</SB>O, S, Na<SB>2</SB>CO<SB>3</SB>and Na<SB>2</SB>HPO<SB>4</SB>are added and burned in a reducing gas atmosphere such as CO at 800-1,200°C for a few hr. The phosphor having a tabular, nearly hexagonal cylindrical shape obtained through this process is excited by exposing it to electron beam irradiation to provide the low-resistance, electron beam-excited display emitting a high-luminance red light.
