PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To locate an earth fault point with a low sampling frequency in precise manner. SOLUTION: Electrostatic capacities represented by a capacitor 2 are connected to two spaced positions on a distribution line 1. On the assumption that the gradient ratio g1/g2 of rising of currents Ia1, Ia2 flowing through a capacitor 2a connected to an earth fault phase is equal to the distant ratio d2/d1 from the capacitor 2a to the ground point P at the time of the earth fault, the distance d1 from the earth fault point detection device 5G to the earth fault point P is located by using an arranging interval d with the following equation; d1=d/(1+(g1/g2)). As the gradient of rising of electric current waveform is assessed, the sampling frequency at the time of recording an earth fault waveform can be restrained low. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
