PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bis(1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-hydroxypropyl)benzene derivative having an oxetane ring and synthesized from a readily available raw material and to provide a method for producing the derivative. SOLUTION: The bis(1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-hydroxypropyl)benzene derivative having the oxetane ring is represented by formula (1) (wherein R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>are each hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group). A method for producing the compound represented by formula (1) comprises reacting a compound represented by formula (2) with a compound represented by formula (3) (wherein R<SB>1</SB>is a hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group; A is a methyl group, an ethyl group, a phenyl group or tolyl group) and an alkali metal carbonate, an alkali metal hydroxide, an alkali metal hydride or an alkali metal.
