摘要 A papermaking process increases the strength of the resulting paper by compressing the fibrous material (F) in a grinding zone (3) between two moving surfaces (1, 2) with minimum relative motion between the fiber and hard surfaces. The relative speed between the fibers and the hard surfaces reaches its minimum at that point (5) where the two hard surfaces (1, 2) are closest to each other, at the most 10 times the absolute speed of the faster hard surface. The grinding/compression zone (3) has no or only minimal shear forces present. The relative motion between the two hard surfaces (1, 2) is a rolling action and compresses the fibers. One of the hard compression surfaces incorporates a series of transverse 2 mm + grooves (4). The second hard surface (2) is smooth. The force exerted by the hard surfaces is between 2 and 10 N/mm.
